WE BUILT A NATION. Founded by Norman Manley in 1938, the PNP was the first political party to be established in the English speaking Caribbean. The PNP was born during a year plagued with turmoil: workers across the island held massive strikes for more opportunities, better conditions and increased pay. Manley recognized that something needed to be done. He strongly believed that achieving political independence would be crucial to achieving social equality. Today, having been in power a total of 33 years, the PNP can confidently state that it has been instrumental in shaping our nation. Our achievements are a testament of our commitment to the principles upon which our party was built—above all, the belief that economic development can only be achieved through hard work, a sound plan and the lasting empowerment of our people.
